The Rega Planar 2 is designed for music lovers ready to take their vinyl playback to the next level. Developed over two years alongside the acclaimed Planar 3, it combines precision engineering, premium materials, and ease of use for a truly immersive listening experience. Featuring the RB220 tonearm, a high-gloss laminated plinth, and a precision-ground float glass platter, the Planar 2 delivers detail, dynamics, and musicality far beyond its price point.
RB220 Precision Tonearm
The RB220 tonearm is packed with innovations to maximise performance and simplify setup. It incorporates Rega’s patent-pending ultra-low friction "zero play" bearings, housed within a lightweight but stiffer bearing housing for improved tracking accuracy. The integrated arm clip and custom aluminium arm tube enhance rigidity, while the updated adjustable bias (introduced in 2020) increases cartridge compatibility.
24V Low-Noise Motor
A new low-vibration, low-noise 24V synchronous AC motor works with a redesigned PCB and precision aluminium pulley to ensure excellent speed stability. This improved motor assembly also reduces internal stresses, helping maintain the sonic purity of your vinyl.
Float Glass Platter & Brass Bearing
The 10mm thick ‘Optiwhite’ float glass platter provides exceptional accuracy and rotational stability. It sits atop Rega’s self-securing 11mm brass main bearing, which improves fit, reduces stress, and minimises unwanted energy transfer into the plinth.
Refined Plinth & Finish Options
The high-gloss acrylic laminate plinth is available in black, white, or red, with the ergonomically positioned power switch keeping the clean lines intact. A walnut effect finish, introduced in late 2022, comes with a smoked dust cover for a classic look, while other finishes include a clear dust cover.
Upgraded Isolation & Drive System
The advanced EBLT drive belt (fitted as standard from March 2021) improves speed accuracy, while the redesigned feet enhance stability and reduce vibration transfer from external sources.
Cartridge Options
The Planar 2 comes factory-fitted with the Rega Carbon moving magnet cartridge for easy plug-and-play setup.
